Tips and ready-made wording
What to put on a graduation invitation
A graduation usually has more than one event and lots of family from out of town. The invitation needs to make clear what each one is.
- The graduate's name and degree (or class, for high school).
- The institution, city and graduation year.
- The date, time and place of each event: ceremony, service or Mass, and ball.
- The ball's dress code, if there is one (smart casual, formal, black tie).
- An RSVP deadline, when the catering is counted per guest.
Ceremony, service and ball
If the events are on different days, make one invitation for each or write all three times in the note. The degree ceremony is the official event and usually has limited seating: say how many guests each graduate may bring. For the ball, make the dress code clear and whether entry is by individual invitation.
Kindergarten and elementary school graduation
In early childhood education, the invitation goes to grandparents and godparents: include the child's name, the school and the time of the ceremony. Many families send the PNG on WhatsApp and print the PDF to give to the grandparents, who keep it as a memento.
When to send it
For the ceremony and the ball, send it 4 to 6 weeks ahead, because relatives from other cities need to plan. For kindergarten graduation, 2 weeks is enough.
Ready-made wording to copy
- “After so much studying, the big day has come! Come celebrate my graduation.”
- “With gratitude to everyone who walked with me, I invite you to my graduation ceremony.”
- “Mission accomplished! Come celebrate with me at the graduation ball.”
- “Our little kindergarten graduate is graduating! We're counting on you at the ceremony.”
